The
local architecture and engineering firm of Bovay Engineers, Inc. (BOVAY) has been
retained by United Space Alliance, LLC, (USA) for design of the Exploration Development
Laboratory in Houston (EDLH). The industry leader in space operations, USA, is
providing its operations expertise, flight software development support, and assembly,
integration, and processing experience to the team, led by Lockheed Martin, that
is building NASA's next-generation crew exploration vehicle, known as Orion. Once
the building modifications are complete, the EDLH will be managed and operated
by Lockheed Martin. According
to Alejandro C. Giannotti, Chairman and CEO, "We are proud of this important
award. Bovay was selected by USA for this project due to our extensive design
expertise in this type of facility and our ability to evaluate and solve very
complex technical issues". The
Exploration Development Lab in Houston will be utilized to develop state-of-the-art
space exploration hardware, as well as avionics software for the Orion crew vehicle,
and other components of NASA's Project Constellation. The
Orion human space flight system will be capable of safely transferring astronauts
to and from the International Space Station (ISS), the Moon, Mars and other destinations
beyond Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The Lockheed Martin team brings to bear the nation's
premier human space flight and exploration expertise in the development of NASA's
next-generation crew transportation system. Bovay
